Cookhouse Eggs

A Breakfast Fit for John Wayne: Cookhouse Eggs

If there is one breakfast that we never miss while camping, it is this one. Such a great hearty (in more ways than one) that will give you the energy to tackle a great hike or spend the day biking. So good. It’s camp…live a little… Continue reading “Cookhouse Eggs”

Storing the Aliner

Aliner in garage

The Benefits of a High Garage: Storing the Aliner

Since the Get Out Camping blog started, we took a hiatus from camping for awhile because we moved. Now, I’m not going to say that is is why we moved, but I will say I think it made our choice house much more attractive to us. Continue reading “Storing the Aliner”

The Great Mountain Pie Cook-Off Experiment

The Great Mountain Pie Cook-off
The Great Mountain Pie Cook-Off is about to begin.

Mountain Pie Contest

At our long camping trip this fall, we have decided to try Great Mount Pie Cook-off experiment. Tired of our boring pizza mountain pies, we’re challenging all campers to come prepared with three ideas and ingredients to make three unique mountain pies, one each for three categories: breakfast, dinner, and dessert. We’ll each cook our category entry at the same time, cut them up and declare a winner. Continue reading “The Great Mountain Pie Cook-Off Experiment”

Aliner Use One: Hotel

Using the Aliner as a Hotel

When we bought the Aliner, a primary reason was to be able to take off quickly for a night or two away without much prep and without the clean-up that typically comes with camping. To do this, we took a look a how we may use this foldable room on wheels. We came up with three ways. The first is as a hotel. To use the Aliner as a hotel we made up one plastic storage container of essentials.

Cook Forest State Park Hiking – Part 1 Trail Review

Some people dream of Hawaii and Jamaica. I have dreamt of Cook Forest State Park. I have always had a picture of it in my mind as being just perfect. Well after many years of dreaming, we headed northeast and went. I was not disappointed. The park itself is beautiful… just breathtaking (but remember, I don’t get out much). I’m going to review the park and our hike first and will cover our camping experience in another post. Continue reading “Cook Forest State Park Hiking – Part 1 Trail Review”

Cook Forest State Park Hiking: Part 2

To properly review this hike, I’ve broken it down into two posts. See the first leg of the trip in Cook Forest Part 1.”So, where were we… ” (in the tone of the storyteller grandfather from Princess Bride…) “Oh, yes, the forest.” We crossed the road and headed toward the swinging bridge entering into what is known as the Cathedral Forest area of the park. A nice bridge… not quite a cool as the one at Trough Creek, but nice (I’ll tell you about Trough Creek another time.) Anyhow, from the swinging bridge we headed up the hill on Rhododendron Trail. This 1.2 mile trail is moderate hiking and a moderate climb. The trail is clear and well marked, making it an relatively easy climb. We found some nice large rocks to sit on and have a snack to try to get our sugar levels up so that we could keep going.

Making an Aliner Bed More Comfortable

Improving the Mattress Quality in the Aliner

After several trips out, we realized that the cushions in the Aliner were not quite the quality we wanted them to be. We sought out a quick fix that did not require upholstery, a needle, or thread. The only tool I wanted to have to use was my credit card.  After all, we got the A-Liner for easy camping. If I’m home sewing cushions, I’m not camping, am I? Kalyumet Campground Review | Cook Forest

When we visited Cook Forest, we stayed at Kalyumet Campground in Lucinda. It is very close to Cook Forest State Park and its location convenient to our planned activities.

How is the A-Liner’s Heat? “It is Warmer Than My House”

How is the heat in a Columbia Northwest Aliner?

Over Thanksgiving, we hooked up the A-Liner and headed “home”. One reason (excuse) we used to justify thus purchase of the A-liner was that both of our parents have recently downsized, leaving us without a free bed in town. (Please don’t tell us about the math, as I ignore it consciously.) Continue reading “How is the A-Liner’s Heat? “It is Warmer Than My House””
