Meatball Mountain Pie

This is an original. Being on a meatball sandwich kick lately, I just had to try it. It did not disappoint. Easy, delicious and well-recieved in the Mountain Pie Cook-Off.

Meatball Mountain Pies
Frozen meatballs, pizza sauce, white bread, garlic powder, Italian cheese blend
Butter and garlic powder go on one side of the bread

Build the Meatball Sandwich
Turn the butter side down in the pie iron. Cut two meatballs in half. Place on bread. Top with sauce and cheese.
Cook until toasted
Close’er up and cook until toasted.

Meatball Mountain Pie Recipe:

Makes 1 pie

2 frozen meatballs, thawed
3 tablespoons pizza quick sauce
1/4 cup of shredded mozzarella (or some Italian blend) cheese
butter
garlic powder
Italian bread

Mix garlic powder and butter in a small bowl or cup. Spread on one side of each slice of bread. Place in well-greased pie iron. Slice each meatball in half and lay onto one slice of bread. Spoon a tablespoon of sauce on each one and top with mozzarella cheese. Close pie iron and cook until the bread is toasty brown Serve with extra sauce if desired.

Judge Comments:

Everyone liked the flavors and the way it cooked. The addition of garlic powder made it tasty. The only suggestion was more of it. Sauce quantities vary by tastes. One judge wanted more sauce, one less. I thought it was just right, but then again, I made it.
